Autographed DVD Set

I have some nice new images from David Cook, thanks to Dan at Star Fleet Facebook, of a DVD set signed by Garrick Hagon and Liza Ross

Updates have also been made to the Tatsuhiro Akama and Dacotu folders and a new Lamia illustration by matsuurama has been added to Fan Artworks.

Solder in the Space - 'ai' Cover

Well, I came across it and that means you have to deal with it as well...
This is actually quite a tuneful cover of the X Bomber theme song, which is in some ways an improvement on the original:
(AI cover) X Bomber "Soldier in the space" by Asatanko

The video is in part, a chamber of artificially-generated horrors, although, I will say that the X-Bomber that appears at 0:23 seconds and elsewhere in the video, would be a nice concept for an 'X-Bomber refit', following the events of the show.

Were it not for that, I think it would've been much better to have shown some actual clips from the show.

In other news, the Nitter project on github has been resumed and there are now 40+ local instances available.

Fan-Made DVD Screenshots - Disc 1

I said that there would be screenshots and lo-and-behold, there are.
I will put up disc 2 at some point next week.

Special Delivery

I got an amazing delivery today.
We've been enjoying watching this this evening, and the colour, constrast and detail are really superb on this fan-produced DVD set.

For me, this is the proper remaster that we should've had back in the day in 2009, rather than just an upscale.

Thanks very much to cpltony16 and everyone else that I know worked hard on this special project.

I will get some better photos and I think I'll set Xilisoft away doing some screengrabs.
You can never have too many images from the show on a site like this.

More about Nitter

Somebody must have noticed my post about Nitter and sent me a very kind email to let me know that Nitter development is alive and well, and giving me some good resources about available instances and forks of the project available on Codeberg.org.

There are over 10 working instances including some Onion (Tor) ones. RSS feeds are available on several of them too.

This will be very handy for researching what goes on over twitter in Japan and other places about Star Fleet without me needing an actual twitter account.

Let me know if you're interested in more info, and I'll be sure to send it your way.

On another note, I saw that Poast, which was the Nitter instance that I used, was attacked shortly after the takedown letters were issued by twitter.
Poast was the only instance to mount a legal defence against the demand.
When the attackers (who, I think we can safely assume, were put up to it by twitter) couldn't do anything to affect Poast's Nitter instance, they went after their site itself and deleted everything that they could there.

I would say that, if you have a twitter account, it may be time to ditch it.
It could have been this site or any other that was erased if it'd been doing anything by chance that got in their way.

2002 Japanese Laserdiscs

As a small public announcement,
If anyone would like to add a set of the Japanese laserdiscs of the show, there is a set that looks to be in very good condition (most of the discs are apparently still sealed) going for really not a lot of money on FromJAPAN

Tatsuhiro Akama

I updated this folder with some new images of a colour-printed transforming Legtrax.

Click the image to check the folder out.

Folder Data

This papercraft model of the Dai-X, built by Tatsuhiro Akama was displayed at the 2017 Wonder Festival in Japan.
To me, it looks to be around 60cm tall and I really like the way in which, when displayed at the festival, they got the model striking a great pose.

Most of these photographs were found on the Japanese Twitter:
	#xbomber hashtag on Twitter
From these, you can see the various stages of assembly.
There appear to have been at least two Dai-X models built as well as various Gundams and a VF-25F Valkyrie.
The model appears to have been designed in software and then printed as a series of templates that can then be cut and assembled.

More recently, I found the video of this assembling and transforming Dai-X papercraft model.

Tatsuhiro has his own homepage about sci-fi papercraft:

Nitter

This site links to nitter instances in various places, which act as a proxy to conveniently display information from twitter.
Most nitter instances have recently shut down due to twitter firing out cease-and-desist letters left, right and centre.

This already seems not to be going quite the way that twitter wanted it to and it might be in for an exciting surprise if it pushes the matter further.

Nitter has been declared dead many times over the years, for all kinds of reasons.
I would be very surprised if this was the end of it.

A Few Little Updates

There have been a few updates around the site...
The comments system has been improved to wrap long lines wherever people had provided URLs in their comments, and the layout has been tweaked.

The Images part of the Media system was made a while ago to only display the filename of an image by default when the mouse rolls over it to make the output cleaner and less busy-looking.
The rollover background is now semi-transparent with a blur effect in CSS and even rounded corners.

I applied a little blur to the site's semi-transparent background to give it a little bit of the Windows 7 frosted glass look that is nice to see making its way back in places.
The main menu has been tweaked a bit behind the scenes.

The last lingering issue I was having that arose from switching over to the high seas of self hosting was setting Sphider search away indexing on a scheduled basis.
On shared hosting, it was done via a small bash script that sets the path to sphider as the working directory and then kicks off the spider indexer script in PHP from the server command line.
With Windows, the solution was just as simple, but done using a batch file triggered off by Task Scheduler.

Task Scheduler is actually better in a lot of ways, because it gives you control over how long a process is allowed to run for and what happens if that task is still running at when the time when it's scheduled to start again.

With that, we can be sure that search results on the site originate from a recent indexing operation, I can uninstall gitbash from my Windows box and I can re-disable the Linux Subsytem for Windows and do away with that stupid little penguin in Windows Explorer.
